Resurrection Men

Website: www.facebook.com/resurrectionmencoventry

Resurrection Men formed in 2008. We’ve got wide and diverse musical leanings as individuals so we bring them together the best we can. We have some crossover in alternative rock and 1960’s and 1970’s progressive hard rock (and a smattering of heavy metal!) and we try to make interesting new music. We have been into the studio a few times and had a few chats with labels, but we’ll see what happens. We’re in no rush…

You can hear some of their work here.

Matt Lakey & The Whatever

Website: www.mattlakey.co.uk

Matt Lakey & The Whatever are a Coventry (UK) based collective that have been playing in and around the UK for the last couple of years. The band consists of Matt Lakey, Ben Haines and Wes Finch with the odd appearances from other whatever’s every now and again.

Matt Lakey heads up the band, writes the songs, sings, plays guitar and takes the most amount of stick from the other members ;P

Ben Haines is the drummer who underpins it all with a style and flavour that’s rarely found in drummers these days. He’s one of those sympathetic drummers who plays them as an integral shape forming part of each song rather than smashing shit as hard as he can. The result is always an interesting and exciting set of grooves that bring edge and bite to each track.

Wes Finch is a local legend in his own right. For the Whatever he plays the bass and brings a wealth of genuine musical talent and inspiration.

How should describe the sound the Whatever make? It’s hard to pin down to be honest. Each tune is crafted around strong well written songs, each with its own flavour whether it’s the folk ballad style of ’3 Rifles’ or the anthemic rock pop of ‘Cold Bones’ or the ……wait….why not just go check out some of the songs and make your own mind up.

In all seriousness the music and pleasure of playing great songs live is what drives the band. If you haven’t had a chance to hear them live them get along whenever and wherever you can. You wont be disappointed, and if you don’t like what you hear then we promise to refund you all gig ticket costs from any completely free gigs we play (*offer only applies to gigs played in Antarctica)

Barricades Rise

Website: www.barricadesrise.co.uk

With over 15 years together honing their musical partnership, Barricades Rise AKA Jonathan Coates and Michael McEntee have mastered the art of sounding like a 9-piece band encased in 2 acoustic guitars and vocals, taking the over-ripe Acoustic folk scene and turning it on it’s head.
They infuse each song, each performance with that life-affirming partnership they have, effortlessly gliding from glorious harmonies to stomping, head-banging riffs. Forever involving the audience in their gigs they feel it’s the most vital part of being in a band.
Michael – “It’s great going to a gig and hearing new music, but if the person on stage doesn’t want to have a chat and interact with the audience, they’re missing a trick.”
After going through several different musical incarnations, Jonathan, lead vocals and Michael, lead guitar fell on the acoustic scene by accident.
Jonathan – “Previously we played in a 5-piece indie band but it was so much easier just the two of us playing together. We played a few open mics and instantly fell in love with it”
The rock-driven energy of their previous band was carried through to the acoustic stage, and this is what the audience absorbed. At most gigs the pair leave the stage covered in sweat and minus a few guitar strings. Since hitting the acoustic scene they have supported Roddy Woomble (Idlewild), Get Cape, Wear Cape, Fly, Gabriella Cilmi and more.
In 2012 Barricades Rise signed to one of the biggest Independent record labels in the USA, Spectra Records and their new album ‘All I Have Is Here’ is to be released in Spring 2013.
